If you want a camera watching the garage, porch or stairwell but there is no outlet nearby, this one screws into a standard E27 light socket and takes its power from there. Plug it in, it powers up on its own, and you pair it with the companion app named in the manual. No wall wart, no battery to recharge.

The lens is motorised: from the app you can swing it 355 degrees left and right and 90 degrees up and down, so one unit can cover a whole room instead of a fixed slice of it. Video is 1080p, and four high-brightness LEDs can be switched on after dark for colour footage, with infrared night vision for distances up to about 10 metres when you would rather stay in the dark. A built-in microphone and speaker handle two-way talk, and motion detection sends a push notification to your phone. Recordings play back in the app, and a microSD card up to 128GB can be fitted for local storage (card not included).

Two things to know before ordering: the camera joins 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, not 5GHz, and the app needs an account plus phone location access during setup. Finish is white.
